Hello everyone! Today marks the very first day that I will be doing my.. (drumroll) ...

FOOD REVIEWS! (with matching fireworks and confetti lol)

Now is the time to turn the page and go to our FOOD REVIEW PROPER. Lets go!!

Let me tell you a little story.

It was the other day that I was sent the food that I will be writing today right? Writing na lang cause assessing and reviewing was already done 2 days ago. haha! Char! I was in the bathroom and my cousin was chatting me pala and was calling me that he needs my address. Told me he was sending me food from his fairly new food business. Was bewildered at first and I was telling him 'Huy kuya tumigil ka, how much yan? As I am not comfortable of "libre" because I am doing a little business myself and you knowwww... plus he's my cousin and I love him so its not right! But he told me in the end and gave him our address with the thought in my head that I will pay my kuya.

So there, let me give you guys a brief introduction of my cousin. Name's Mark Mapa on facebook, Owner of MWM Builders, he works a lot! they renovate condos and I'm super proud of him for his success! But with kuya, we share this funny passion over food. Whenever I post food on my timeline or stories he would drool. Whenever I see his stories too, maglalaway ako sa food he's been eating. Our messenger was like exchanges of food photos over time! Well apart from grit and motivation messages. Labyu kuya! That's our kulitan ever since. One time I posted that Paolo and I bought chicken and noodles from this famous restaurant in Binondo and he's like "OMG saan yan?". That same afternoon, he sent me a photo that he was in that restaurant too! HAHAHAHA! Talk about food aggressiveness. Lol

So back to my story...

30 minutes later, my husband Paolo barged in at the door carrying the bag filled with food. I remembered my face light up and Paolo laughed telling me "basta talaga pagkain ang saya saya mo" HAHAHAHA. How I could I not? Jeezas. So your girl jumped out of the sofa and like thunderbolt opened.the.bag.filled.food. (Periods in between for stress lol) After opening the food containers, a faint aroma immediately invaded my nose. I was ooh-la-la-ing those moments and I have a fork ready to taste everything! Food were still warm and you can tell that the food was cooked maybe approximately less than an hour after receiving it? 10 points for Gryffindor! HAHAHA!

So while the food were still warm, I sank my fork on that chicken and boy it just sort of slid down! I had no difficulty in separating the chicken shreds. I popped that chicken excitedly into my mouth and that first bite was a celebration. BOOM.

Then it occured to me.

"Tanglad"

or Lemongrass in English. Its the first ingredient that came to my mind. I even asked my cousin this, "Nilagan mo ining tanglad kuya?" He answered yes! I was so happy! Cause the thing is people. I am sort of particular with Chicken or any other meat for that matter. It needs to be treated before it goes anywhere near any heat source. Chicken has a bit of "malansa" smell or toughness that needs to soften up. As well as the goal of making the inside meat especially flavorful. Thus marinating it, soaking it in a brine or at least dry rubbing it with spices would do the trick before coating it with flour or any breading (for me kahit anong breading yan but if the meat inside is very bland and tough like you would feel that nothing has been done to it, it would be like "meh") I'm just being honest. But this Chicken Inasal, I can taste that it took its time curing in the marinade before it was grilled. I appreciate that. Meat was really good. Skin was grilled to perfection. I cant remember the bones at all lol. I can taste the other ingredients used but comparing it to the usual Chicken Inasal that I've tried. This is about notches higher. This is kinda leaning to the sweet side but not too sweet. It just dances perfectly with the other ingredients. You just need the classic soy sauce, kalamansi, sili and lots of rice. Man. I'm telling you. Cook Rice again. Lol

Next stop was the Grilled Pork Liempo. Chopped into bite sized pieces. I actually stopped eating pork last 2016 but this 2021 I had about a 5 time encounter with Pork already Lord. But I ate only those that I would dare to try IF I COULDN'T SMELL THAT STRONG PORK ODOR. You get me right? In my case when I stopped eating pork, whenever I can smell someone cooking pork nababahuan ako sa amoy as in. Feels like that smell gets stronger as time goes by. But Korean Pork? Perfect. haha. No issue at all. So with my Kuya's Liempo, I did a lot of smelling first and that was the trigger. Its like telling me, nagkamali ka ng inamoy Sir! HAHAHA. Temptation First Level. Charred Meat. That classic marinade again and before I know it, Ive taken a bite na pla HAHAHA. No mabahong amoy o lasa. The marinade was perfect and the meat together with a small chunk of "taba" and a lil bit of skin. Nakooooow. Right meat tenderness as I nibble one bite after the other. It tastes like the classic liempo that I would taste in Bicol. All Natural Marinade. It tastes like it was marinated overnight hence no piggy stench. Salty, sweet, sour, tender, bit of oil in the mouth swirling with that rice. Good Lord. Reminds me of some family outings where we would grill meat, fish and hotdogs at super sarap na sarap sa food after hahahhaha. Thats the feeling it brought me. Sabay dip sa soy sauce, kalamansi, sili again... Kanin pa.

Lastly.. That Classic Buttered Garlic Shrimp. You know all these food has some special character to them and hindi sila nakakaumay. When I was peeling the shrimp, I noticed that it was not stiff at all. Its soft but not too soft. Means it did not sit too long in the fire but managed to cook them fully and its flavorful. Its a skill and I appreciate that. Shrimps cooked for too long will harden. I imagined how the ingredients were tossed and were stir-fried. I also observed that the Chicken Inasal and Pork Liempo has that considerable sweetness to them but not this shrimp. And for me it balanced the whole meal. They did not went overboard with the butter but theres a lot of ginger and garlic and took it easy with the salt, highlighting the freshness of that shrimp. Man it was good. Ang sasarap nakakaiyak! LOL

This is me, would always opt to eat using my hands. haha. Bicolana yarn?
Ask Pao not to include my face since I just got out of the gym and I look like a disaster. lol

I was eating everything simultaneously dipping them in that soy sauce mixture, adding some rice, chewing, exclaiming to Paolo na "Babe, babe you should eat na jusko ang saraaaap hahahahhahah" and adding bahala ka jan, mauubusan ka ng kanin" lol

This was the time when I'm contemplating na "Cla, cla you should stop eating na, mauubusan mo ng kanin asawa mo" LOL

I've been describing here how my food experience was but didn't tell you anything about the business yet!

First Off, Pulutan Section is the name of the business. You can check them out on Facebook. So I guess, these are the handpicked favorite "Pulutan" of the owner. "Pulutan" is tagalog for the food eaten as accompaniment for alcoholic drinks. This is usually a Filipino style sort of a celebration where the food served would neutralize the taste of the alcohol and the food is not too heavy on the tummy (well that depends on the companion, lol cause some as Ive heard, makes the pulutan as a Main Meal to the detriment of the group) hahahhaha. In my case, I wasn't drinking and my rice was ready soooo its a meal HAHAHAH.

Oooh I almost forgot! Kuya gave me atsara. That atsara was like icing on the cake! Satiating my tastebuds not to crave for something sweet after. Neutralizing my mouth not to get umay. Clever.

To continue with the story that I told you guys on my intro, kuya just told me the prices just so I'l agree that he can send those to me. But after airing it out on him how good the food were, I asked him about 4 freakin times during the course of our conversation for him to give me his bank details! I was so kulit and he's making deadma hahahhaha! Oh well.. Thank you kuya! lol

They are located in BGC and the prices are the best. So if you're from Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay, Pasig, the whole of Metro Manila you're in luck!  Check out their menu!

I would definitely order that Grilled Squid on payday! I am so proud of the owner cause even though he is on this condo renovating job but he pursued his passion on food. Same as I pursued writing. And he did so succesfully! Remember when I told you that you can taste if the food was prepared and cooked with love and care? This is one of those moments. :-)

Your energy used when preparing something divine such as food, give it its soul. Giving it life. Life to nourish that body enabling the person to function well holistically and for someone like me? someone with deep appreciation for life?

Sometimes, just some simple happiness will do. :-)

Kaya! magsaing na! HAHAHHAHA! Happy dinnertime everyone!
